Batteries are the key enabler for emission-free mobility, renewable based energy systems, advanced robotics and mobile medical equipment. The iBAT association represents industry, authorities and research institutions along the complete value chain from manufacturing to recycling and strengthens Switzerland’s competitiveness in this core technology.
Founding members of the iBat Association are the Bern university of applied sciences (BFH) with its Battery and Storage Systems Lab and Manufacturing Technolgoies for Battery Production, Centre Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique (CSEM), Ökozentrum, and Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne with its Swiss Battery Technology Center (SBTC).
The association wants to strengthen the competitiveness of the Swiss battery industry. Core activities are interdisciplinary exchange, event and workshop organization, generation of ideas, generation of Links to European organizations and alliances, information about international research agendas, funding opportunity information and the support of partners. iBat supports their partners to adapt their existing business while phasing out old technology in favor of battery powered solutions, with know-how transfer and cross-application R&D efforts and by initiating projects with third party financing.
In addition to 15 research partners, the association already has 51 associated members. Members include, among other ABB Schweiz AG, Belenos Clean Power Engineering AG and SBB CFF FFS Center of Competence – Energy Storage.
