Welcoming the Swiss Data Science Center to Biopôle Lausanne, Site of SIP West EPFL

We’re thrilled to announce that the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC)—a joint initiative of EPFL and ETH Zürich—has chosen Biopôle Lausanne, part of Switzerland Innovation Park West EPFL, as its new base of operations. This decision marks a transformative step for the region’s innovation ecosystem, particularly in data science, AI, and digital health.

💡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹?

• 𝗔 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲: The SDSC, backed by the ETH Board with CHF 60M in funding through 2028, is a critical link between academic research and practical applications in data and AI.
• 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: With support from the Canton of Vaud (CHF 7.5M by 2028), the SDSC is set to create up to 100 new jobs and foster innovation projects that will have a lasting impact on the local economy and beyond.
• 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: The SDSC positions Vaud as a global leader in data science, joining forces with Biopole’s Digital Health Hub, which already hosts 30+ companies and 150 professionals.

By partnering with institutions like Université de Lausanne, CHUV / Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, and HEIG-VD, the SDSC will enhance innovation across industries, from healthcare to sustainability. Its first pilot project, ENERBAT, focuses on using data science to improve energy efficiency in buildings—a testament to the power of collaborative innovation.
