The canton of Solothurn is collaborating with the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIP Biel/Bienne) to advance automation technologies for electric vehicle battery recycling processes.
As part of this initiative, the SIP Biel/Bienne is establishing the Swiss Battery Technology Center Solothurn GmbH in Biberist (canton of Solothurn). Leveraging SIP Biel/Bienne applied research, this new center offers unique technologies and expertise for the industrial implementation of electric vehicle battery recycling.
In Switzerland alone, at least 15,000 tons of lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles will have to be recycled annually by 2040.
The goal of the new innovation hub: to offer unique technologies and expertise for the industrial implementation of battery recycling, thus enabling the sustainable, safe recovery of lithium-ion battery components.
