Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne supports companies and innovation teams. It provides infrastructure (space and laboratories), research services, and other services for SMEs and start-ups and assists these in developing and implementing marketable products. Since its foundation, the number of jobs at the park has already increased to in excess of 100, around 25 companies have already set up here, four 3-D printers for plastics and metals have been installed, and three laboratories have been built.
Biel/Bienne is an ideal location and, as a bilingual city, creates a link between the different language regions. All important business and research partners can be reached in a short time. Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne is situated directly at the city’s railway station and will soon have its own highway connection.
The spatial planning aspects on site are unique. A building area of more than 14,000 square meters is available for an initial phase of the expansion of Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne. In the immediate vicinity, land with floor space potential of up to 100,000 square meters exists for further expansion phases, localizations, and spin-offs.
Research and innovation focus areas
Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne performs research in the fields of generative production, the development and use of energy storage devices, and medical technology. The realization of successful research and development collaborations between private companies and Swiss universities is a central focus of the innovation park’s activities.
Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT)More
Within this focus area of research, industrial production processes are researched, optimized, and implemented in practice. In the Smart Factory Lab, the research results of our research partners are implemented in the production solutions of our industry partners.
Energy Storage and MobilityMore
We are currently working on the storage of electrical energy using chemical batteries (various battery technologies) and on combining hydrogen storage devices and fuel cells. We optimize the production of batteries, the efficiency of energy storage devices, and the operating temperature range.
Together with the BFH-TI (Bern University of Applied Sciences – Engineering and Information Technology), the center for “Technologies in Sport and Medicine” is operated with the objective of conducting applied research and facilitating the expedited transfer of technology to the industrial sector.
