With the appointment of Gilbert Achermann, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Straumann Holding Ltd, Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area has gained a strong leader with a background in the industrial sector and broad experience in medical technology.
At the extraordinary general meeting on June 29, 2017, Gilbert Achermann was unanimously appointed to the Board of Directors of Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area Ltd and named Chairman of the Board of Directors. He replaced Thomas Kübler, Head of Economic Development Baselland, who has held this position on an interim basis since the company limited by shares was established in January 2017. Thomas Kübler remains – as do the two representatives of the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Jura – a member of the Board of Directors.
Gilbert Achermann has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Straumann Holding Ltd since 2010 and a member of the Board of Directors of private bank Julius Baer since 2012. He has been a member of the executive board of the chamber of commerce of Basel-Land and Basel-Stadt since 2016 and a committee member since 2017. In addition, he is active as a business angel at startups and he is an Executive in Residence at IMD Lausanne. He has an Executive MBA from IMD Lausanne and a degree in Business Economics from the St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences (formerly the Higher Economics and Administration School [HWV]).
“With the appointment of Gilbert Achermann, we have found a very experienced, well connected professional from the private sector and an expert in the life sciences area for this important project,” says Thomas Kübler.
The appointment of the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area Ltd is the first step toward the planned opening of the company to business and science.
