Geneva has been named European Capital of Brain Health 2026 by the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), recognising the city’s commitment to research, innovation and public awareness in brain health. Campus Biotech, a site of Switzerland Innovation Park West EPFL, has played a central role in the programme and reflects the close links between scientific research, clinical expertise and innovation that underpin Geneva’s position in neuroscience and life sciences.
The initiative extended beyond the 12th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology, held at Palexpo from 27 to 30 June. Its programme included public conferences, the nationwide Brain Health Schools Challenge and a city-wide awareness campaign focused on sleep, physical activity and healthy eating. On 26 June, Campus Biotech hosted the public event “Brain Health and the Swiss Plan for its Promotion”, bringing together experts from across Switzerland to discuss the implementation of the Swiss Brain Health Plan, the burden of brain diseases and the role of prevention.
The designation also draws attention to Geneva’s wider brain health ecosystem. Campus Biotech works alongside organisations including the University of Geneva, HUG and CHUV in an environment designed to connect research and healthcare. Its infrastructure supports areas such as neuroengineering, advanced brain imaging and translational neuroscience, helping researchers move scientific knowledge towards applications with potential benefits for patients and society.
By combining research capabilities with public engagement and health policy, the European Capital of Brain Health programme demonstrates how an innovation ecosystem can contribute beyond the laboratory. For Campus Biotech and Switzerland Innovation Park West EPFL, it further underlines the value of bringing scientific expertise, clinical partners and technology platforms together in one collaborative environment.
