Biopôle Lausanne, a site of Switzerland Innovation Park West EPFL, has opened 2026 with three healthcare innovation milestones from its campus community. Abionic, Distalmotion and Legacy Healthcare are advancing solutions in rapid paediatric sepsis diagnostics, outpatient robotic surgery and dermatology, illustrating the breadth of expertise concentrated at the Lausanne life sciences campus.
Biopôle reports that Abionic’s seven-minute pancreatic stone protein test for early sepsis detection has been approved for paediatric use, extending its application beyond adults. The point-of-care assay runs on the company’s abioSCOPE® platform and measures pancreatic stone protein, or PSP, as a biomarker supporting sepsis assessment. The broader age indication brings rapid biomarker testing into paediatric care, where timely recognition can help clinicians intervene sooner.
Distalmotion has secured a strategic investment from Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JJDC, Inc. to support the expansion of its DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System in US ambulatory surgery centres. Developed for outpatient settings, DEXTER combines a small, mobile footprint with flexible workflows and an open architecture compatible with existing operating-room technologies. The system is cleared in the United States for selected adult laparoscopic procedures and has been used to treat more than 3,000 patients across Europe and the United States, according to Distalmotion.
Legacy Healthcare is preparing RAAINBOW-2, an international, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 study of its topical botanical drug candidate Cinainu for moderate-to-severe alopecia areata. The programme follows US Food and Drug Administration clearance of the company’s investigational new drug filing and is planned to enrol at least 500 adult and paediatric participants across multiple regions. Together, the three developments reflect the value of Biopôle’s collaborative environment, which brings more than 2,500 professionals and over 25 academic research groups into close proximity with industry and clinical partners.
