HYPERLOOP INNOVATION GROWS AT SWITZERLAND INNOVATION PARK ZURICH

Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich supports hyperloop R&D, including the DemoTube test facility and European Hyperloop Week.

”The partnership with Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich (SIP Zurich) anchored our research centre of national importance in a highly innovative ecosystem. We are excited to act as a research partner of SIP Zurich in support of their projects, startups and companies to develop new products in the transition to sustainable mobility infrastructures.”

Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich is emerging as a central hub for hyperloop research and development in Europe. As the world seeks more sustainable and efficient transport systems, hyperloop offers a high-speed alternative using magnetically levitated capsules traveling in low-pressure tubes. Realizing this vision requires technical validation, infrastructure, and collaboration across sectors, something the Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich is uniquely positioned to support.

A cornerstone project is the construction of DemoTube, a 120-meter-long test track developed and built by the EuroTube Foundation. DemoTube allows researchers and engineers to validate key hyperloop components under real-world conditions. The construction of the hyperloop infrastructure is itself a research project into scaling concrete component fabrication with digital tools in a “Smart Mobile Factory”. DemoTube is part of a larger European initiative to develop longer test tracks and scalable models that can one day serve as intercity transportation systems with near-zero emissions.

In July 2024, the Park hosted the European Hyperloop Week (EHW), where more than 20 university teams from across the continent presented their Hyperloop prototypes. ETH Zurich’s Swissloop team, headquartered at the park, was among the leaders showcasing propulsion systems, pod designs, and vacuum technologies. These student-led innovations are vital to keeping the technology open, collaborative, and fast-moving.

Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich’s support for infrastructure, networking, and public-private partnerships provides fertile ground for innovation. By combining technical resources with global outreach, the Park plays a key role in moving hyperloop from vision to viable mode of transport.
