VDL ETG: DEEP-TECH MANUFACTURING MEETS SCIENCE AT PARK INNOVAARE

VDL ETG established its Swiss hub at Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare to deepen cooperation with PSI and accelerate high-precision manufacturing for advanced semiconductor, analytical, medical and space equipment.

“Researchers at PSI are actually studying the same challenges as we are, but from a different angle. The combination of these two perspectives leads to a number of important new insights on both sides. This is why it is strategically important for us to be part of Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare and PSI”

Vice President Business Development VDL Enabling Technologies Group (VDL ETG)

Based at Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare since early 2023, VDL Enabling Technologies Group (ETG) is a global leader in high-tech contract manufacturing. As a member of VDL Groep, the company delivers precision-engineered modules and systems for semiconductor equipment, space, analytical instruments, and medical devices.

The decision to locate at Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare was strategic: the company has worked together with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) for over a decade most notably supplying over 12,000 ultra-precise copper discs for the X-ray free-electron laser SwissFEL and wanted to embed itself more deeply into the same campus. This proximity gives VDL ETG seamless access to PSI’s cutting edge infrastructure such as Swiss Light Source (SLS), SwissFEL, magnets, and vacuum systems and enables real-time joint innovation.

Park Innovaare, as a leading deeptech innovation hub, also offers a collaborative ecosystem uniting research, engineering, and start-ups. VDL ETG utilizes this to prototype novel technologies, like microchip inspection systems and cryogenic heat pipes in direct partnership with PSI teams.

From their site at Park Innovaare, VDL ETG engineers develop and test solutions for future hightech systems, with hands-on access to PSI’s laboratories. Their ongoing work includes cryogenic pulsating heat pipe systems for superconducting magnets and Xray inspection prototypes, projects that accelerate both scientific discoveries and industrial competitiveness.
