PARK BIEL/BIENNE
Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIP Biel/Bienne) is a national research and innovation hub (accredited by Innosuisse) with a focus on applied research and industry projects. It consists of four specialized competence centers: the Swiss Smart Factory, Swiss HealthTech Center, Swiss Battery Technology Center, Swiss Advanced Manufacturing Center, and houses the Swiss Cobotics Competence Center. With state-of-the-art labs, cleanrooms, and event spaces, SIP Biel/Bienne supports R&D-projects, prototyping, testing, and product development - just steps from Biel’s main station and the Campus Biel-Bienne of Bern University of Applied Sciences.

The Swiss Smart Factory (SSF) in the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne promotes automation and robotics in production through the use of cobots and autonomous robots. It offers flexible, software-centric automation solutions that separate hardware and software. Materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum are processed. The SAMC offers R&D to optimize material properties such as strength, corrosion and heat resistance, as well as for the production of high-quality prototypes and small series.

The Swiss Advanced Manufacturing Center in the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne supports companies in additive manufacturing. It offers state-of-the-art 3D printing technologies such as stereolithography, fused deposition modeling, material jetting and selective laser melting. It uses the industrial LPBF machine IMPACT 4530 to produce high-precision metal parts. The aim is to develop, test and implement innovative solutions for industry.

The SBTC also manages projects such as CircuBAT to create a closed-loop system for lithium-ion batteries.
The Swiss Battery Technology Center (SBTC) promotes innovation in the field of Energy Management & Storage through research and development of efficient energy storage systems. With the largest battery test laboratory in Switzerland (operated jointly with the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH)), the SBTC enables companies to test their systems under real-life conditions. It also works on advanced battery and energy management systems (BMS and EMS) to ensure the safe operation and optimization of storage systems.

The aim is to recover over 90% of the raw materials and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions during resource recovery.
