SITE – TICINO
Switzerland Innovation Park Ticino / Site of Park Zurich is a dynamic innovation hub combining research, technology, and entrepreneurship. With competence centers in Life Sciences, Lifestyle Tech, and Drone Technology, it offers cutting-edge infrastructure such as equipped Life Sciences labs, and specialized test areas. By 2036, its headquarters will move to the new “Nuovo Quartiere Officine” innovation district in Bellinzona, spanning 25,000 m².
Ecosystem
Site Ticino supports the development of drone technologies for geodata collection and analysis. At the Swiss Drone Competence Center , sensors such as LiDAR, multispectral, and thermal cameras are integrated and tested - including for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations. In collaboration with research institutions, applications are being developed for environmental monitoring, agriculture, infrastructure inspection, and disaster management.
Partners
The Site Ticino promotes VTOL technologies through the Swiss Drone Competence Center (SDCC) at Riviera Airport. There, drones and VTOL systems are developed and tested. SIP-TI collaborates with Virginia Tech in AI and drone research and offers shared airspace for real-world testing scenarios.
Partners
Site Ticino, through the Swiss Drone Competence Center at Riviera Airport Lodrino, supports the advancement and testing of cutting-edge drone technologies. The site offers outdoor flight zones for both visual line of sight (VLOS) and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations. It also provides expert support with certification, regulatory compliance, and the development of innovative applications and autonomous aerial services.
Partners
Site Ticino supports research in microgravity and space medicine through an ESA ground testing facility for 3D cell culture experiments under space-like conditions. The goal is to support studies of human cell behavior in simulated microgravity conditions in preparation for more complex spaceflight experiments and develop new approaches for space medicine and space-to-earth biological applications. The park fosters collaboration between researchers, start-ups, and industry.
Partners
Site Ticino supports the development of organ-on-chip technologies and organoids, which replicate human organs on microchips. These systems use microfluidic channels and 3D cell cultures to precisely simulate physiological and pathological processes. They offer significant potential in drug development, toxicity testing, and personalized medicine by enabling more cost-effective and animal-free testing methods.
Partners
Site Ticino through the Swiss Drone Competence Center (SDCC) offers a dedicated test area for VLOS and BVLOS drone operations. The infrastructure includes a runway, control tower, and R&D lab. Companies can test, validate, and certify their systems under real-world conditions.
Site Ticino specializes in creating in-vitro human 3D complex tissue models tailored for specific pre-clinical testing and personalized medicine. Operating at a pre-industrial scale, SIP combines advanced bioengineering and cell technologies to develop realistic tissue environments. These models support drug development, toxicity screening, and disease research, accelerating innovation in life sciences and precision healthcare.
Site Ticino provides fully equipped mechanical and electrical workshops at the Drone test site for prototyping and development. Located directly next to the outdoor test area, they enable rapid iteration and testing of drones, robotics, and mechatronic systems. Companies benefit from short distances between workshop and test field for efficient product development.
Site Ticino, through the Swiss Drone Competence Center (SDCC), supports drone (UAS) certification and regulatory compliance. It offers assistance with SORA and PDRA procedures, access to test sites, support during approval processes, and coordination with key stakeholders. In collaboration with FOCA and EASA, the SDCC promotes safe and compliant drone technologies in real-world testing environments.
Site Ticino, through its Swiss Drone Competence Center, provides workshop spaces at its drone test site for on-site prototyping and development. This facility supports companies and researchers in developing and testing drone technologies within a unique shared airspace where drones, military, and civil aviation integrate seamlessly.
Site Ticino’s Swiss Drone Competence Center offers outdoor test areas for VLOS and BVLOS flights in a real alpine environment. Located at a former military airfield in Lodrino, it provides advanced facilities for drone R&D and prototyping. The site supports seamless integration with civil and military airspace, enabling comprehensive UAV testing and innovation in autonomous flight and drone traffic management systems.
Site Ticino offers 24m2 wet labs pre-equipped with lab furniture and technical fluids and access to common shared labs infrastructure
Site Ticino, through its Life Sciences Competence Center in Bellinzona offers a shared wet lab equipped for biofabrication and cell culture research. This facility includes an ISO 8 cleanroom and complies with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) standards, enabling safe handling of human cell lines. The lab supports research in 3D tissue models, like organ-on-chip,and organoids.
Site Ticino offers flexible coworking spaces. Users benefit from shared infrastructure, access to meeting rooms, and proximity to advanced labs and testing facilities—ideal for early-stage projects and agile teams.
Site Ticino offers modern office spaces for start-ups, technology companies, and research institutions at their three Park site, depending on the focus areas of interests.
